The Institute trained versatile railway engineers in the field of designing, building and operation of all road and hydro-technical constructions.<\/p>\n<p>In 1934 a branch of the Leningrad (then the name of St. Petersburg) Railway Institute appeared in Moscow on the basis of which the Moscow Institute of the Engineers of Water Transport was founded in 1980.<\/p>\n<p>Finally the Academy was officially established in 1989 in the result of merging the Moscow Institute of the Engineers of Water Transport, the Moscow River College and secondary vocational (shipping) school No 202. It was the first unique national project, which combined within the framework of one educational institution three subsequent levels of continuous training: secondary vocational (support), operational and managerial.<\/p>\n<p>Today the Academy is a large educational and scientific complex which structurally consists of 30 departments of 5 faculties, a college and 3 branches (in the towns of Velikiy Ustug, Ufa, Rybinsk).<\/p>\n<p>It includes a center for research in water transport, various scientific and educational laboratories, modern computer classes, sophisticated scientific and training simulators, numerous workshops and up-to-date sports facilities.<br \/>\nThe Academy focuses on training specialists for inland waterways and maritime industry.<\/p>\n<p>It comprises the following faculties:<\/p>\n<p>Navigation and Fleet Operation<br \/>\nOperation of Water Transport Infrastructure<br \/>\nWater Transport Management<br \/>\nTransport Law<br \/>\nSupplementary Vocational Education<br \/>\nTraining is provided by the Academy according to the following programs:<\/p>\n<p>Secondary vocational education (SVE)<\/p>\n<p>Navigation;<br \/>\nOperation of ship power plants;<br \/>\nOperation of ship electrical equipment and automatic devices;<br \/>\nTransportation arrangement and transport management;<br \/>\nInformation Systems;<br \/>\nHotel Service.<br \/>\nHigher education (HE)<\/p>\n<p>Bachelor degrees<\/p>\n<p>Law;<br \/>\nEconomics (enterprises);<br \/>\nEconomics (commerce)<br \/>\nManagement (logistics);<br \/>\nManagement (enterprises);<br \/>\nManagement (human resources)<br \/>\nPersonnel management (state and municipal services;<br \/>\nBusiness Information Technologies;<br \/>\nTourism (water transport)<br \/>\nNaval Architecture, Ocean Engineering and System Engineering of Marine Infrastructure Objects ( intramural study only);<br \/>\nWater Transport Management and Hydrographic Support of Shipping;<br \/>\nOperation of Transport Technological Machines and Complexes;<br \/>\nTechnology of Transport Processes;<br \/>\nInformation Systems and Technologies;<br \/>\nTechnospheric Safety<br \/>\nHydrographic Building and Construction.<br \/>\nSpecialist degrees<\/p>\n<p>Navigation;<br \/>\nOperation of Ship Power Plants;<br \/>\nOperation of Ship Electrical Equipment and Automation Devices;<br \/>\nConstruction of Unique Buildings and Structures.<br \/>\nMaster Degree<\/p>\n<p>Operation of Transport Technological Machines and Complexes<br \/>\nPost-Graduate Programs<\/p>\n<p>Heat Engines;<br \/>\nRoad-Building, Construction and Cargo- Handling Machinery;<br \/>\nShip\u2019s Design and Construction;<br \/>\nShipbuilding and Ship Repair Technology and Shipbuilding Production Management;<br \/>\nShip\u2019s Power Plants and their Components (main and auxiliary);<br \/>\nWaterways and Hydrography;<br \/>\nOperation of Water Transport, Navigation;<br \/>\nEconomics and Management of National Economy (as per branches and activities);<br \/>\nInternational Law, European Law.<br \/>\nThe total amount of students equals to 4719, including:<\/p>\n<p>3300 students of full-time tuition;<br \/>\n1419 students of extramural courses.<br \/>\nThe Academy\u2019s teaching staff is highly qualified: among 328 lecturers and teachers 159 people have scientific degrees and academic ranks (Doctors of Science, Doctors of Philosophy, Academicians, Professors).<\/p>\n<p>The Academy is in possession of fairly extensive resources of teaching premises and numerous training facilities:<\/p>\n<p>10 lecture halls;<br \/>\n81 class-rooms;<br \/>\n15 computer class-rooms;<br \/>\n32 special studies class-rooms;<br \/>\n39 laboratories.<br \/>\nClasses are conducted in five teaching blocks.<\/p>\n<p>The Academy\u2019s branches have over 189 class-rooms and laboratories<\/p>\n<p>To train navigators and engineers the following simulators and complexes are available: GMDSS, \u201cShip\u2019s Navigation\u201d, \u201c Navigating Bridge Integrated with Ship Power Plant\u201d, Transport Safety\u201d, \u201cSafeguarding of Ships and Port Facilities\u201d, \u201cRadar Navigational Instruments and Systems\u201d, \u201cMARIBS-B\u201d, SARP and ECS \u201cMorlot\u201d, Virtual Ship, a shore-based training simulator centre on the safety of navigation.<br \/>\nThe Academy takes an active part in international activities which embrace the following areas:<\/p>\n<p>Joint research<br \/>\nThe scientists of \u201cShip power plants and automation\u201d department together with their counterparts from Norway and Germany conduct research in the field of reducing the toxicity of exhaust gas from ship diesels and the prospects of using natural gas on ships.<\/p>\n<p>The scientists of the Academy in collaboration with the scientists from the Technical University of Bremerhaven (Germany) tested the marine engine of \u201cMAC\u201d company for the analyses of nitrogen oxides emission.
